Sibling Bonds Frozen In Time
The connection is impossible to describe in a single word and the idea of moments to remember may often be though of as Sibling Bonds Frozen In Time. Ah…your siblings. It is that comfort you feel when you sit in the same room with your brother or sister, in absolute silence, yet you both know how the other is feeling. It’s picking up right where you left off, even if it’s been weeks, months or years since the last deep conversation or revisit into each other’s lives. It’s the acknowledgement that at the end of the day, you’ll always be able to call on your sibling for support. Sibling relationships are life’s longest lasting relationships. They are longer, for the most of us by a quarter of a century, and than our ties to our parents. I once read a book about the sibling bond and how it is so distinct compared to any other. A sibling relationship lasts longer than a relationship with our children, certainly longer than with a spouse, and with the exception of a few lucky guys and girls, longer than with a best friend.
Photographing real life, and catching those rare moments that sometimes never return will always be our mission at Streetlight Images. As parents we know how precious each event can be and we don’t want to miss a thing! Every single day of our children’s lives is irreplaceable. So many things happen and so much can be missed. It’s the age where time seems endless yet is so short. Having had siblings, it is pretty clear that there’s nothing quite like the bond between your brother or sister. I read a couple quotes a while back from author Terri Apter and they went something like this “Whether it’s because of all the time spent together while growing up or the lack of need to pass judgment on each other, there is something unique about the way siblings are able to understand each other.”
“They may not always admire you, but they’ll always be intensely interested in you, and if you ask a sibling to describe a parent, a friend or a sibling; it is the sibling that the child will describe with most sophistication and detail, in terms of their character and habits. This is why they are so significant.”
I feel very few words can truly describe the emotional ties there are between siblings. Ultimately, it is a special connection and it is in many ways, a wonderful blessing. It’s so clear when you’re the photographer…moments we have captured on camera with little tiny siblings just hanging out together like bff’s are some of the greatest images ever found.
