Portrait Photographer

I love being a portrait photographer! This winter break we stayed with my sister in law who asked if Bobby and I could snap some images of my niece and brother while she was off at work. Usually one would think the best images come from a studio, but my opinion is, the best family photographs, are those taken right at home.

There is something simple and safe about your own habitat. Especially for children. It is the place you let your hair down, kick your shoes off, relax and breathe. A place where you can be yourself, and find peace. It is amazing how lovely you can feel in your own home, and that shows in pictures.

When someone requests a portrait photography session in their home we are always extra excited. It gives us a chance to be creative. It’s a new canvas of possibilities, and one of the reasons we love being photographers. There is so much beauty in the day to day moments, that we don’t always stop to appreciate the simple things. It isn’t about laundry or messes, just where the light comes in, and the feeling of being home.

On this day in particular our niece Harper was sick with a fever. Even though she wasn’t quite as smiley as usual, we had the opportunity to catch her snuggling with Daddy in her PJs.

It’s the moments in between the hustle and bustle. The quite space, often washed into the background of our lives. Capturing those real life times that melts my heart the most. <3
